As a parish we have advocated and prayed for three simple things for a holier Church: truth, accountability, and transparency. Our Three Simple Things Novena of Sundays ended February 24 on the last of the four-day Vatican summit to address the protection of minors in the Catholic Church. Where do we stand today? Have our prayers been answered? The short answer is “not yet.” But there are hopeful signs.

Dear St. E’s parish family, Last Sunday at our 5:00 and 9:00 Masses I pointed out some similarities between the situation in ancient Corinth and the recent uproar over a few students from Covington Catholic High School. Dear friends in Christ, This Wednesday, January 30, will be Mary Linehan’s last day as our Director of Finance. She is retiring after serving St. E’s for over 12 years in this capacity. Mary had actually planned to retire last June, but in light of all the other staff changes last summer, I asked her to stay on. I will be forever grateful for her willingness to do so. Mary has a well-deserved reputation as one of the best parish finance directors in the Archdiocese of Washington. Her financial expertise, wisdom, dependability, and deep personal faith have been tremendous blessings to us all. I cannot overstate her importance behind the scenes in keeping our parish operating smoothly. On behalf of our entire St. Elizabeth’s parish family, I wish to thank Mary for her generous service to us. We’ll certainly miss her, and we wish her all the best in this new stage of her life. With kind personal regards, I am Sincerely in Christ, Msgr. Bill Parent
