Catholic Charities seeks help from young people and their families Catholic Charities seeks help from young people and their families for our brave staff members who are working directly with people. These staff members can’t stay home to stay safe. They are dedicated and brave! There are two ways you can help them:
Write letters of support and encouragement to Catholic Charities staff- When we think about shelters for people who are homeless we rarely realize that there are people who work there. At Catholic Charities there are about 100 people who are Shelter Program Assistants. They keep the shelters clean, serve meals, assign beds to anxious and scared guests, settle and sooth them. These days the shelters are open around the clock, usually they are open only overnight. The Program Assistants are doing really hard work. To boost their spirits and let them know we appreciate their work, we are collecting notes, poems, and prayers of support. Drawings are welcome, too! Send them to lettersofsupport@cc-dc.org or mail handwritten notes and drawings to Catholic Charities, Attention Tara Aras, 924 G St NW Washington DC 20001. You can find more details about the project here.
Sew face coverings- We are on a mission to collect 1,500 sewn face covers. So each of our staff members who are working directly with vulnerable people will have at least 3 face coverings: one to wear, one to wear tomorrow and one to wash. Completed face coverings can be mailed to Catholic Charities, 924 G Street NW Washington DC 20001. Click this link to sign up and sewing instructions
Catholic Charities COVID Volunteer Opportunities for Adults: Catholic Charities is engaging adults in a few on-site and virtual volunteer activities, too. Click here to learn about Catholic Charities COVID Volunteer Opportunities and sign up.
Maryland Responds Medical Reserve Corps: Persons who are interested in volunteering for the Maryland Responds Medical Reserve Corps are encouraged to sign up at the
Maryland Responds Medical Reserve Corps website. They do not need to work in the healthcare or medical field to volunteer, and there are opportunities to provide support with in-home care or in non-contact roles.
